Essential Hacks Every Homemaker Should Know

What if we told you your home could be beautiful, clean and organized at all times without you spending the whole day scrubbing floors, wiping surfaces and keeping things in order? Here are some home hacks that will help you get a highly functional, pristine home with spending your life doing it.

Shoes bring dirt, muck and debris into the house. You may not notice it instantly, but after a while, the floor starts looking dirty and other surfaces also get a layer of dust on them. Moreover, outside shoes worn into the house can be a major source of germs. Various studies have concluded that a variety of germs and bacteria get carried into our living spaces along with shoes.

No matter how nerdy this may sound, it always works. You don’t need to do everything on a daily basis – just when it’s required. Make a list of daily tasks, bi-weekly, weekly, fortnightly, monthly tasks and so on. For instance, you need to do dishes daily, kitchen daily but you can change bedsheets once a week. Similarly, in the bathroom, you need to do the pot daily but you can afford to do glasses maybe once a week or bi-weekly and showerheads – once a month.

Taking one room at a time, carefully put together your list categorizing cleaning tasks as per their frequency. Once this list is ready, your life will be so sorted. All you’ll need to do is feed the schedule on your digital calendar and keep ‘reminder’ settings to your convenience.

Keep things in order

Remember your momma always telling you to keep things where they belong, well looks like it’s about time. This is a simple habit but pays big in return. Your house looks neat and welcoming, things can be easily found when you need them and most importantly, your life stays uncluttered (well, most of it!).

Declutter

This is the secret to a happy home and a happy life. Many people go by the six-month rule, extend it to one year if you like – if you haven’t used something in one year, chances are you’ll never use it. Get rid of all things redundant, all things broken and all things unwanted. If things of sentimental value are taking up too much room, you know what to get rid of – the sentiment maybe??

Use baking & vinegar for cleaning

Baking soda and vinegar are magic ingredients when it comes to cleaning around the house. To keep drains clean and unclogged, every fortnight pour 2 tablespoons full baking soda into the drain and pour 4 tablespoons of vinegar on top. Your drains will be free of all grime and greasiness that, if untreated, would block the drain pipe.

Similarly use baking soda to clean gunk off utensils. Even utensils that have old and stubborn grime become clean with this hack. Take water in the utensil you want to clean. Add baking soda and leave it on low heat. Let the mixture heat up for a few minutes. Turn the heat off, let the water cool then scrub it off.

Baking soda is also an excellent cleaning agent for inside of the oven. Take 2-3 tablespoons baking soda and add enough water to make a paste. Apply this paste inside the oven and leave it for 15-20 minutes. Spray white vinegar and leave for another 10 minutes. Wipe it clean with a damp cloth.

Baking soda and water paste can also be used to clean mattresses. Take baking soda, 4-5 drops of dish-wash liquid, water and a few drops of essential oil. Apply the paste over the stained areas of the mattress. Take rest of the paste, add water and put it in a spray bottle. Spray this mixture all over the mattress and sprinkle baking soda on top. Let it sit for an hour or two. Vacuum clean the mattress.

Cleaning wooden chopping boards

Sprinkle some kosher salt on your chopping board and rub a lemon on it. Wash and dry it, then apply coconut over the surface. This will not only clean your chopping board but also condition the wood.

Removing tough stains from carpet

Hydrogen peroxide is really good at removing stains off the carpet. Before you use it on the stain, pour a few drops on the corner for testing. If the color does get spoiled, you are good to go. Pour the hydrogen peroxide over the stain, rinse and repeat till the stain is gone.

  1. These are not just energy efficient but they also bar outside dirt and noise and are no doubt a value for your money as they were for mine. The glass they use has a very effective insulation or air tight in between i.e. they disallow any unnecessary escape or inflow of heat. In addition, if you choose the tinted type, it will add on to this effect.https://www.westseattlewindowcleaner.com/pressure-washing-bellevue-homeowners-best-friend
