Thanksgiving Tips You’ll Thanks Us For

Well, you’d argue there’s still time to Thanksgiving and we’d tell you there isn’t. if you want a chaos-free, happy Thanksgiving, you need to start now. Here are some really helpful tips that will make your Thanksgiving dinner a breeze.

  • Print an empty November calendar in which you’ll eventually mark shopping days, planning days, preparation days, chopping days, margination days and cooking days.

  • Plan the menu. Prepare a list of ingredients. Check out all the things you have, and accordingly prepare your shopping list.

  • Choose sides and dessert that can be prepared in advance. Just leave the bird for the D day.

  • Your shopping list should be divided into sections like ‘NOW’, ‘LATER’ & ‘LAST’ which should contain items in the order of their shopping priority. For instance, party stuff can be bought earlier so that goes in the ‘NOW’ list but food items like turkey, meat etc. need to be bought in the last so they go in the list accordingly.

  • Take prints of all the recipes and stick them on cabinets at eye level. Avoid the chaos of looking for selected recipes in the last minute.

  • Clean the refrigerator. Take out everything. You will realize there’s actually stuff in there that need not be in the fridge. Take out all unopened cans, packs, jams and other things that can stay out for two days. You’ll need all the extra room in the refrigerator.

  • Set the table the previous night.

  • Use roasted garlic instead of fresh to get an even more awesome flavor.

  • Turkey’s overcooked and dry – take it on a platter, drizzle it generously with warm chicken broth. Undercooked? Microwave on medium for 2-3 minutes (or higher if required).

  • Use space around the house. Set separate stations for drinks, plates & cutlery, starters and also dessert if possible. This would just mean having a table that can have essentials kept together. This would also help you split up work and space for guests who compulsively must help.

Trick or Treat?

Guide to buying Halloween candy without being tricked!

You are going to have goblins and witches and pixies and ghosts, all sort of strange visitors ringing your doorbell, and you better have the candy they want or be ready to be tricked.

Buying Halloween candies may seem like easiest of all the Holiday shopping you’ll be doing. But if you really do the math you might be getting tricked into paying excess just because a box of candy seems like least of the places you’d think of saving. Here are some quick tips to help you make the Halloween even more fun for and your visitors from Hotel Transylvania!

  • Calculate the cost of per-piece candy. The box might say there’s extra candy in it, or it is a savings pack, but you should still calculate the cost of one piece of candy in the box by dividing the cost of the box by the number of candies in it. compare it with other boxes and you can pick up something with a really good deal on it. This way you can end up picking more candy in your budget.

  • Don’t just stick to Halloween candy. There can be many options on the shelves. Choose from chewy treats to gummy bears to lollipops and so much more. Halloween candy can be priced high just for the occasion.

  • Have a mixed bowl. Do not stick to chocolates only. Chocolates are costlier. So have or sugary delights for kids. Refrain from making it a single kind. Variety helps keep the kids excited and you can work a balanced cost too.

  • Hand out the candies yourself. Do not let little monsters loot your bowl. Kids tend to pick up a handful and you’ll run out of your treat in no time.

  • If you don’t mind spending a little, you can also choose to give little goody bags instead of just candy. Just fill in some candy, some kids’ party favors like whistle, balloons or whatever. This would make one of the fondest of moments for children who visit your house.

Thanksgiving Hacks You’ll Find Extremely Helpful

Hosting Thanksgiving dinner? Here are some life hacks that’ll not only help you hold your sanity in place, but will make your Turkey day a fond memory for all.

Make lists

You’ll need to start this at least 3 weeks before Thanksgiving. Take a diary and note the following:
List of guests
Dinner menu
List of ingredients you’ll need
Gifts or favors (if any)

Clean your fridge

Before you really set out shopping, clean your fridge. You’ll know what to buy and what is already kept at home. This helps you not only save money but also helps you save space which comes in so handy for party dinners.

Prep

Not just for Thanksgiving, but planning is the key to every dinner or party you ever host. You need to make day-wise task lists. For instance 2 -3 days before dinner measure and keep ingredients aside, was veggies etc. A day prior to the dinner, prepare stuffing, chop veggies, make pie base etc. And for the D-day, make a hour-wise task list. With so much on your mind, these lists will become lifesavers.

Pie crust with extra flakiness

To get that extra flakiness on your pie crust use ice cold vodka instead of water.

Save time on appetizers

Save yourself tons of work by making raw appetizers. Cheese and pineapple sticks, cocktail sausages, herb salami with cheese etc. make great appetizers and you save on time and effort too.

Bite sized pies

Use lids of mason jars to bake cute bite sized pies.

Flavored ice-cubes

Freeze fruits to get cool looking ice cubes and add a little flavor and zing  to the beverage, alcohol or not.

Steam corn in a cooler

Put corncobs into a cooler, pour boiling water and keep the cooler closed for 30-40 minutes. Add some butter and pepper to add flavor to your corn cobs.

Pick up shredded glass with dough

Glass broke? Pick up broken glass pieces with a ball of dough or modelling clay by gently pressing it against the floor where the glass broke. Broken glass will get stuck to the ball of dough and you won’t even hurt your hand.

Steam veggies in the dishwasher

The hot water treatment in your dishwasher will give your veggies the right softness. Do remember to remove soap from the dishwasher theough!

Holiday smell

Get that pleasant holiday smell in your house by making stovetop potpourri.

Really Easy & Cheap Halloween Costumes

Some really cool Halloween costume ideas that won’t cost a bomb, they can be made from your wardrobe. Just add an accessory or two for more intense look. Check out Halloween getups for everyone.

Add a chain and some drawing with a marker to the classic white ghost costume. A white mask will add zing to the overall getup.

Take your old cheerleading dress, make it a little dirty, put on some zombie makeup and become a zombie cheerleader. Do not forget the worn-out pompom to get the complete look.

Do you have a black cocktail dress that you are done with, well almost? Cut the bottom zigzag, take a black stole and cut it the same way. Get the super sexy gothic vampire look.

All you need to buy for this super cool zombie look is the mask. If you don’t have the striped t-shirt, just pair your dungarees with any full sleeve t-shirt. For added drama, let loose one shoulder flap of the dungaree.

Got a blue dungaree? Pair it with bright yellow hooded t-shirt or sweatshirt and there you go, you are a minion. You can get the minion eye mask or create it with a little art and craft skills.

Got a sexy red dress? Pair it with devil horns hairband and get the seducing devil look. Get elaborate makeup and you are ready to steal souls (and hearts)!

A sexy black dress paired with this witch’s hat will make you the sexiest witch in town. Carry a broom to make it even more real.

Got a black skivvy top and black jeans? Just get the headgear and eye mask and you can be the cat woman.

Just get the wig and moustache and you could be Albert Einstein. Just mess up the hair as if they are defying gravity!

Got a black tee and black trousers? All you need is this batman mask and you are the BATMAN!
