Working-From-Home: Create Your Happy Place

Coronavirus changed a lot of things around, work culture being one of them. Many companies have now incorporated work-from-home in their business models. Some have done it partially, which means a few days in the week you might be required to go to the office, but mostly you would still be working from home. And, if you haven’t still, you might be required to make your work station at home permanent.

If that be the norm, don’t just create a work space, create a space that’s comfortable, inviting and gets your creative juices flowing. Here are a few tips to help you create your happy place at home, even if it means getting just a corner.

1.    Light and ventilation

Ideally, you should choose a corner that is close to the window. If that’s not possible, choose a place that’s well lit. Get additional lamps if you have to. A well-lit area boosts mood and productivity. Good lighting also helps create a camera-friendly setup for video conferences. Refrain from using overhead florescent light that can trigger migraine.

2.    It’s all about comfort, comfort, comfort

If you are going to be spending a lot of time working at home, you must invest in comfort. Choose an ergonomic chair that has an adjustable seat height, seat depth and lumbar support. If you are not keen on an office-like chair, choose a comfortable accent chair that’s super comfortable and also goes with the other furniture around.

3.    Get Organized

If you do not invest yourself in organizing your workspace, you will sooner or later end frustrated. Make sure your workspace is neat, convenient and has all the things you need in place. Make sure you also include things that make you feel happy; it’s your happy place after all.

4.    Include room to move around

When creating your work space, make sure you make room to stretch. Also, do not sit with your coffeemaker with you. This will not only clutter the desk but it will also rob you of a chance to break the monotony of continuous sitting. Every once in a while, take a break, get up, go and look outside, which will help you break continuous screen time. Take a moment to stretch and then get back to work.

5.    Get the magic of aromatherapy working for you

Aromatherapy works magic. Get scents that relax you, and make you all Zen. You will see your productivity increases many folds. Get candles or diffusers, whatever works for you.
