If
you thought washing hair was just about shampooing and conditioning,
you’d be surprised to know there’s more to it. Although it may
not seem much, but if you are not following the right steps to wash
your hair, you might actually end up with hair problems like split
ends, frizzy hair and worse, hair fall.
Here
are a few tips for hair wash to help you stay on the top of your hair
game.
- Rinse, Rinse, Rinse
Don’t
be in a hurry to apply shampoo as soon as you get in the shower.
Rinse your hair thoroughly first. Rinsing hair will help you get rid
of dirt, pollution or extra product buildup from all hair products
you must have used. Rinsing will also help shampoo penetrate more
deeply.
- Massage
Once
you apply the shampoo, massage the shampoo onto your scalp gently.
Massage over the whole scalp, creating a lather. Don’t use a lot of
shampoo, it might strip your hair of its natural oils. Gently rubbing
your finger tips on to the scalp to cleanse, works better.
- Conditioning It Right
Don’t
apply the conditioner to your scalp, this will make your hair extra
greasy. Start apply conditioner an inch from the roots and work your
way down. The farther the hair is from the root, the more
conditioning it needs. So, if you have long locks, make sure you
condition the tips well. If your hair is dry or brittle, add a few
drops of oil to your conditioner.
After
applying the conditioner, allow it a couple of minutes to penetrate
in to the inside. Then rinse off with cold water.
- Temperature Matters
However
relaxing a hot shower can be, your hair works best with cold water.
Hot water can strip your scalp of its natural oils leaving your hair
dry, flaky and itchy. That said, a cold shower may not be possible
during winters, or for some people not possible at all. In that case
it’s best to use warm water, the colder the better.
- Hair Products For Your Hair Type
You
spend so much time researching about everything, spend a little time
and research about the right hair product for your hair type. This is
not one-size-fits-all situation. If extra hydration works for frizzy,
curly hair, it might not work best for straight, oily hair. There’s
a plethora of products available in the market, give it some time and
attention. Read product reviews. Make a list of shortlisted products.
Be your own guinea pig and try products to find what works best.
- Blot
Blotting
your hair between shampoo and conditioner, helps hair absorb the
nutrients from the conditioner well. Also, after shampoo, do not
wring your hair or rub it in the towel really hard to dry it. Blot
your hair and wrap it in an old t-shirt. This will help contain the
frizz and damage.
- Do Not Brush Wet Hair
Brushing
or combing wet hair will cause hair breakage and hair damage. Once
you’ve blotted your hair dry, start brushing from down the roots,
detangling as you work your way up. Apply serum if the tangles are
overwhelming.
