Your
radiance-boosting cosmetics (a.k.a. luminizers, highlighters,
strobing creams) can get you that instant glow on the face, but ask a
beauty professional and they’ll tell you glowing skin essentially
starts with skin care. It requires discipline and dedication,
sticking to a routine, doing it over and over again, like a ritual.
Before
you even get to making a skin care ritual, you need to understand
beauty hygiene. If you are doing the right things (like cleansing,
exfoliating, toning, hydrating) but do not care about hygiene, you
might unintentionally be transferring oil, dirt and impurities back
to your skin. Confused? Here’s what we mean by skin hygiene:
- Have a clean bed. Yes, it starts from there. When you sleep, the body comes in repair mode, which is true for skin as well. This means sweat from the skin, dead skin debris, and not to mention dirt from your hair, all gets in your skin. Change your bedding no less than once a week.
- Wash your makeup brushes. You don’t want to rub bacteria and dirt on to skin along with makeup.
- Wash your hands before you put on makeup.
- Clean your face every time you are back from pollution/dirt. You can either wait until the end of the day to use a cleanser for cleaning your makeup, or simply splash water on your face as soon as you get home.
- Always keep your towels clean, especially towels you use to wipe your face.
Follow
this routine to get healthy and beautiful skin:
- Cleansing – This is essentially the first step. If your skin does not get cleaned properly, you can develop black heads and pimples. There are all kinds of cleansing products available in the market from cleansing oils, to cleansing milk, gels and foams. You need to find the right product for your skin type.
Some
cleansers we recommend:
This
gentle facewash is recommended by dermatologists for acne prone
sensitive skin. It is also recommended for other skin problems such
as eczema or rosacea. The point being that Cetaphil is so gentle that
it can be used even on skin that needs special care and cannot bear
any irritants or chemicals. Cetaphil is soap free, hypoallergic and
fragrance free.

great cleanser that’s noncomedogenic. La Roche-Posay Toleriane

people who need special skin care. It’s gentle and non-drying. With
the active ingredient being glycerin, this product does an
exceptional job of providing gentle hydration to the skin.

With
soy proteins, amino acids, cucumber extract and rosewater the soy
face wash is extremely gentle and recommended for sensitive skin. The
soy facewash gently cleanses skin while making it soft, toned and
brightened.
- Toning – Usually neglected, toning is an important step in skin care routine. It removes any remaining make-up and helps restore the pH level of the skin. Again, like with the cleanser, you need to choose your toner too as per your skin type.
Some
toners we recommend:
Thayers
Witch Hazel Toner
This
refreshing facewash has the goodness and soothing effect of aloe Vera
and rose petals. It is one of the best-selling toners in the country.
Vegan, cruelty free, hypoallergic, alcohol free, soy free and
artificial fragrance free.
Mario Badescu
Mario
Badescu has a whole range of toners, from rosewater to aloe vera to
lavender. These toners lock the moisturizer in, helping preventing
dryness and irritation. The ingredient combinations are simply
great. Get a soft, supple and beautiful skin.
- Moisturize
This
is one of the most important part of your skin care routine. Look for
the right moisturizer for your skin type. There are good moisturizers
for oil and acne-prone skin also. If you do not provide your skin the
necessary hydration, your skin will compensate by producing more oil,
which will simply aggravate your problem.
Some
moisturizers we recommend:
Clinique
has a wide range of moisturizers that are good for different skin
types. From gels to creams, they have it all. The products are top
quality with positive reviews and excellent rating.
Another
great product line of hydrants – Elf. From supple hydrant to face
cream to radiant moisturizer with SPF, Elf has it all. There’s
facial oil for night along with eye cream, tinted moisturizer and so
much more.
- Sunscreen
Day
moisturizers usually come with a sunscreen, but if your moisturizer
doesn’t have, you’ll need one. Ideal would be a foundation or
BB/BC cream or a tinted cream with SPF. Depending upon your exposure
to sun, look for the appropriate SPF. In general SPF 30 should be
ideal for everyday use.
Sunscreens
we recommend:
The
Hawaiian Tropic range of moisturizers is one of the most highly
recommended sunscreens in the country. They are gentle, don’t form
a cakey layer on your skin, and are available in different SPF levels
to suit different environments and skin types.
From
sports sunscreens to kids and baby sunscreens, Banana boat has a wide
variety to choose from. The products have top ratings, and is amongst
the best-selling products in the country.
